Follicle Tracking

We know that struggling to conceive can often leave you with many questions. Whether you are trying to conceive naturally, undergoing IVF, or having fertility treatment abroad – our Follicle Tracking scans are designed to predict the time of ovulation by performing a series of ultrasound scans.

One of our qualified and experienced sonographers will determine the number, and size of your follicles at each scan, along with the thickness of the lining of the uterus (endometrial thickness).

Your first scan will begin around day 9 of your menstrual cycle. This service will typically include a total of 3 scans, all performed by qualified and experienced sonographers.

Your first baseline scan:

  • During your first scan we usually ask you to fill your bladder. Then, a scan is performed through the abdomen (transabdominally). We will assess the appearance of the uterus, ovaries and endometrium.
  • We will then ask you to empty your bladder, and discuss the option of a transvaginal scan with you. If you consent to having a transvaginal scan, a qualified and experienced sonographer will then perform this scan. A transvaginal scan gives us much clearer images than scanning through the abdomen. This enables us to record the size and number of follicles more accurately.

Any subsequent scans:

  • All subsequent scans are performed transvaginally to assess the development of the size and number of follicles and the thickness of the endometrium.

If you are having fertility treatment abroad your clinic may require you to have ultrasound scans before you travel. You can discuss your requirements with our experienced staff who will advise you. We are then able to arrange your scans at a time specific to your treatment centre. Following your scan, we can send reports to your email, which you can then forward to your clinic abroad.

Please note that our Follicle Tracking scans are not a substitute for a fertility consultation. The scans are particularly suited to those that are seeking fertility treatment out of their local area or abroad.

Cost per cycle – £175 (maximum of 4 scans, any further scans, within the same cycle, above 4 will be charged at £60 each)

Some centres require 1 scan only, cost – £85
