FAQ

Do I need to arrive early for my scan?

No. Please do not arrive more than 10-15 minutes before your scan time. If you arrive early we are not always able to see you any earlier than the appoinment time given.

What are 4d baby ultrasound scans?
Unlike your conventional black and white 2D hospital scan, the 4D scan produces life like pictures of your baby. The fourth dimension is time, so you see your 3D scan image in real-time to show your baby's movements.

Are 4d baby ultrasound scans available to everyone?
Yes. You do not need a referral from a doctor, just give us a call or you can use our online booking diary to book your scan now.

When are the best times to have 4d baby ultrasound scans?
You can have the 4D baby scan between the 22nd and 34th week of pregnancy although we suggest you try to book between your 24th week and your 29th week. If you would like a scan outside of these dates please feel happy to call us to discuss it.

I am having twins, can I still have a 4D scan?
Yes, you can. You will need to book your 4D baby scan slightly earlier at around 24 weeks gestation as there is less space to scan your baby later on.
There is no additional cost for a twin pregnancy.

What happens during a 4d scan?
When you arrive for your scan we will ask you to complete a short registration form to include your pregnancy dates and contact details.
You will be taken into the scan suite where we hope to make you feel comfortable and relaxed and where seating is provided for your guests. Cool gel is smoothed onto your abdomen and you will be able to view your baby scan from either the 4D ultrasound scan machine or the LCD screen positioned on the wall. We will discuss the scan and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
If, due to technical reasons we are unable to obtain a good image image of your baby we may ask you to take a short walk to help to change your baby's position. If we are still unable to obtain good 4d scan images we may ask you to return for a second scan at no extra charge.

Is the scan safe?
Yes. Ultrasound during pregnancy is widely accepted as safe for both mother and baby.

Does the 4d scan or gender scan replace my hospital scan?
No. The scans are optional and do not replace your hospital antenatal scans.

What happens if you see a problem?
Your 4D baby scan at babyvision is not a scan to check for abnormalities, however if we suspect a problem we will discuss the findings in as much detail as possible. We will then contact your usual health professionals and provide you with a full written report and supporting images.

Can you tell me the if I am having a boy or girl?
If you wish to know the gender of your baby we can almost always tell you. If, due to the position of your baby we are unable to see, we will offer a further 2D scan at no extra charge. We are unable to guarantee 100% accuracy.
It is not difficult to hide this area if you do not wish to know your baby's gender.

Is it a boy or girl?
The answer to the question “is it a boy or girl?” can usually be discovered through our 2d gender scans or our 4d scans. If, due to the position of your baby we are unable to see, we will offer a further scan at a later date. If you would not like to be told if you are expecting a boy or a girl during your 4d scan we can avoid this.

Do I need to have a full bladder?
You need to arrive with a full bladder for both Dating and Nuchal scans however this is not necessary for the 4D scans and the gender scans.
To obtain a full bladder drink approximately 3 cups of water about an hour before your appointment. If you become very uncomfortable please go the the toilet.
Your bladder will fill fairly quickly if you are well hydrated.

What if I would like a scan package that is not listed?
With some of our 4d baby scan packages you are able to add additional items. Please see our 4d scan page

How many people can I bring with me?
There is a large sofa and armchair in the scan room, which will provide seating for a maximum of 5 guests. Children are very welcome to attend the scan.

Can I purchase additional photographs?
Presentation folders containing 4 quality colour photographs can be purchased as can individual prints. You may also upgrade your package to include a photo album containing 12 colour photographs of your baby. A CD-rom containing still j-peg images can also be purchased.

How can I pay?
We accept all major debit and credit cards, and cash.
